Boko Haram burns down Mbolakel village near Chibok
Boko Haram terrorists have burnt down another village in the space of three days as they laid siege on Mbolakel village in Borno State on Christmas day.
According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the terrorists attacked the village, only kilometres away from Chibok, at about 11:45 pm on Tuesday, December 25, 2018.
Residents reported that at least three people were injured as the terrorists burnt down the whole village as many ran for safety after gunshot rent the air.
“The heavy gunshots woke us up. We saw the flames from faraway. Early this morning, we went to the Mbolakel village; it was burnt down, three wounded, there was no loss of lives,” Musa, a resident, told Sahara Reporters.
The attack comes just days after Boko Haram terrorists carried out a similar attack on Makalama community, also near Chibok.
Chibok is the site of one of the group’s most infamous exploits as 276 schoolgirls were kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School in April 2014. 164 of the girls have returned but 112 remain unaccounted for.
Since Boko Haram’s insurgency escalated in 2009, it has killed over 27,000 people and displaced millions in the northeast region, with its operations also extending to border countries like Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
Buhari vows to punish corrupt aides caught embarrassing him
The president warned that using one’s office or influence for private advantage or financial gains is corruption.
President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a stern warning to his political appointees to stop causing him embarrassment with self-serving and corrupt acts that involve the exploitation of his name and office.
While speaking to State House correspondents on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, warned political appointees, government officials and party officials against influence peddling for corrupt pecuniary gains and other forms of extortion in the name of the president.
He noted that complaints of extortion of innocent people by what he called “self-serving name droppers & influence peddlers” is causing increasing embarrassment to the Presidency.“President Muhammadu Buhari had made it very clear since his inauguration that he won’t tolerate any form of impropriety by his appointees, aides, and government officials who abuse and misuse their offices for illegal financial advantages,” he said.
Shehu further warned that using one’s office or influence for private advantage or financial gains is corruption. He noted that Buhari’s commitment to fight corruption at all fronts in his government remains unchanged.
“The President would not tolerate any conduct by anybody to use his name to extort innocent people,” he said.
He added that officials in Buhari’s government who are not committed to his vision of a corruption-free Nigeria would be “weeded out once caught and punished accordingly”.
Nigeria to become 14th best global economy by 2050 – TETfund
The Executive Secretary of the fund, Dr Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi said this during an interactive session with members of the Buhari Support Political Group, “One 2 Tell 10’’, on Wednesday in Kano.
According to him, indices of growth and development are manifesting following the sound and excellent economic policy introduced by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He noted that a report released by an established global economic expert, PWC, had also predicted that Nigeria would be the 14th biggest economy in the world in 2050.Baffa-Bichi disclosed that the report, titled `The World in 2050’, which was released recently, attributed this to the current economic revolution introduced by the Buhari administration.
He said the Nigeria’s economy is now on a sound footing as evident by the stability in the business and investment environment.
The TETfund boss commended Buhari for his good economic policies and initiatives which were responsible for the country to get out of recession within just two years.
According to him, this feat was certified by the major financial players in the world such as IMF and World Bank.
“If not for the prudent management of resources instilled by the administration, Nigeria would have been in a serious economic crisis”, he said.
According to Baffa-Bichi, who is the Director-General of the “One 2 Tell 10’’ movement, explained that getting out of recession was by no means a great achievement.
He expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon be among the best economies in the world if these policies are sustained.
He therefore said such achievement alone should make Nigerian electorate to renew their mandate to the government.
Baffa-Bichi further commended the group for their steadfastness and commitment towards ensuring the success of the APC administration.
He urged them to redouble efforts in their campaign for the re-election of Buhari and the APC at all levels in the 2019 general elections.
“Nigerians are now wiser and they have seen the good works of President Buhari, giving him another chance in 2019 will certainly go a long way to further secure our country and launch her among the comity of advanced nations.
“On assumption of office, Buhari had three major programmes which are ensuring security, fighting corruption and economic recovery.
“We are all living witnesses today that our country is enjoying peace with the taming of the activities of insurgents and pipeline vandals.
“While efforts are on top gear to quenching the activities of bandits in other parts of the country. Economically, Nigeria is now on a sound footing while corruption has been reduced to the barest minimum.”
He pointed out that agricultural activities have been growing, following the availability of farm inputs at affordable prices; unlike in the past where fertiliser and other incentives were out of reach.
The Chairman of the “Onee 2 Tell 10’’ Buhari support group, Mr Yuguda Abdulazeez, had earlier assured that the group was all out to ensure the success of Buhari and all APC candidates in the 2019 elections.
Police nab 3 suspects for murder of corps member in Nasarawa
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Samaila Usman, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lafia.
NAN reports that the corps member, Samuel Makene, was allegedly murdered at the residence of Emmanuel Ombugadu, Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a political gathering.
According to him, the police have arrested three suspects from Angwan Baba Arago of Akwanga Local Government Area for the murder of Samuel Makene.
“The suspects were already apprehended and transferred to the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation” the police spokesperson said.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigation was concluded.
The PPRO assured families of the deceased that the police would ensure that the suspects and other criminals in the state were made to face the law.
NAN reports that the deceased who was murdered on Dec. 20, was buried on December 23.
